Inspired by my fashion blogger friends, I finally urged myself to create a blog in the hopes of making a mark in the crazy world of fashion. As the cliche goes, what you put in is what you get out. So how did this happen?
It was the night of September 7th 2012 - the first Fashion's Night Out in Hong Kong. Initiated by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and the CFDA, FNO has spread globally into a celebration of fashion and shopping amidst the tough economic climate. Given how long I waited for this to finally arrive in Hong Kong, I called up my fashion buddies Natalie and Nicole (http://nicolelikes.blogspot.hk/) for a fun night out. And what a night it was - from fashion bloggers to models to the designers themselves, FNO proved to be a resounding success in the fashion hungry metropolis I call home.
Being the first year that Hong Kong has held Fashion's Night Out, the event was only limited to the Lane Crawford stores around town. We were not let down however as the Lane Crawford store in ifc had a good selection of pop up exhibitions and quirky merchandise from Shoko Tsuchida's paper cutting art to Zana Bayne's S&M harnesses. Best of all though was our chance to meet Canadian denim brand Naked and Famous designers Bahzad Trinos and Brandon Svarc. Funny as hell and extremely easy going, I was instantly sold with their concept of using the finest Japanese denim and merging it with their creativity and passion to create one-of-a-kind jeans. After getting a pair of their famous glow-in-the-dark jeans, Brandon offered to make an oragami samurai hat. He had an anecdote where his friend bought him a book that taught him how to make "Porn-agami" though he refused to make me an oragami vagina as Sarah wouldn't have been too happy. Speaking of which, Sarah Rutson who happens to be the fashion director of Lane Crawford joined our conversation when Bahzad started talking about Justin Bieber. Turns out, Bahzad came across one of those foam board JB's while he was at a convenience store in Canada. What struck him though was what he was wearing below - Naked and Famous jeans! Along the way, we bumped into blogger and lookbook maker Bryant from fashioncrave.com and blogger Zoe from fashiononymous.net who were great company and inspiring to say the least. It was all I could really ask for in one night!
What got me started here though was when Bryant asked me whether I had a blog to which I said no. It struck me then that I had so much to offer yet I was doing nothing to contribute to the world of fashion. So I decided now was my moment and here I am faithfully blogging away to the wee hours of the morning. Till next time!
