Rick Genest for Mugler |
It's official. Creative director of Mugler, Nicola Formichetti, has left the French brand citing "a mutual decision" to part ways. With only a short 2 year tenure at Mugler, Formichetti has transformed the once dormant brand into a boundary pushing label with his avant garde creations and crazy marketing (NSFW Xtube video with ropes, chains, lions, ripped men and oily skin below). It's a brand that started the whole online fashion social media craze and one with many great collaborations, most notably his relationship with Lady Gaga.
His debut collection featured her as a fashion muse/model which was followed by a fashion film in Formichetti's Spring 2012 RTW collection that also featured Gaga. Menswear was no less boring with a collaboration with Rick Genest (aka Zombie Boy) for Mugler's Fall 2011 Menswear collection that inspired many Lookbook-ers for Halloween and an episode in American Horror Story. Though it may be the end for Formichetti at Mugler, the fashion world will still be seeing him in the near future.
