Art Basel: A photographic abstraction

It's good to feel the buzz from Hong Kong after having hosted several notable art events that has come in all sizes. Art Basel was definitely one of the main highlights to HK's art scene with many international galleries gathering together in one exhibition space (not to mention a celebrity appearance by the one and only Kate Moss).

While it's good to see the explosive growth in numbers from a measly 19 000 in 2008 to a much more respectable 67 000 last year, some are concerned by the big name galleries who have the ability to displace the local ones in terms of quantity and quality. That is not to say however that contemporary Chinese art is any less appealing and on the bright side, it may even increase the standards of local galleries to compete with other notable galleries from the West. It's all friendly competition...
