Steven Meisel is at it again with yet another sexy ad
campaign for Prada's Fall 2013 collection. This time, a slew of seductive women
including Christy Turlington, Fei Fei Sun, Freja Beha Erichsen,
and many more were selected to model for the Italian brand. Props to stylist
Olvier Rizzo for his grunge-y romantic vision with oil slicked hair and neo-noir
set up.
Prada was not to be outdone however with her
minute-and-a-half long fashion film that also ties in with the ad campaign.
Steven Meisel, the mastermind behind the film muses,
"Under the glare of the spotlight, and the watchful
gaze of the casting director, nine young hopeful actresses take centre stage
and prepare for their close ups.
The hunter and the hunted, watching each other like wild
beasts.
One by one they are selected and cast aside like slides
in an ever revolving carousel. A dance between reality and fiction... "
Much like the criticism of the celebrity cult in fashion, the revolving carousel is a huge aspect in what Suzy Menkes calls in her article, "The Circus of Fashion". Models at fashion week strut the runway in designer clothes but in reality live a life that is far removed from fashion. Such is the poetic message that models Amanda Murphy, Cameron Russell and Caroline De Maigret all share in common. But it's not just models we're talking about but women in general. Behind their glamorous facades, any woman can tell you that it's a tough world where it's not just about looking fabulous. Meisel adds mysteriously, "these women are not who you think they are..." and in all honesty, I don't think he's lying either.
