Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, product designer Samuel Chan is the man behind a design collective with diverse designers from around the world. Concerned with "contemporary design and meticulous craft", Joined and Jointed merges artisinal quality with simple and stylish solutions for any living space.
"We believe tomorrow's classics are being imagined and created today."
Not unlike their reinterpretation of modern classics, Joined and Jointed operates on an equally unique business model that communicates directly to their customers online. While most of us are now accustomed to buying clothes from online retailers like Asos and Net-a-Porter, buying furniture may seem to be the way forward in this relatively traditional market. What also sets this site apart is that each piece has been specifically designed by one of the many designers in the collective and it is clearly shown when you select the product, allowing you to see the design process and their backgrounds.

Simon Pengally is the designer of the Concave bookshelf (below), a striking design favourite that is both simple and visually stimulating. From the front, one can observe the simple grid-like structure of the bookshelf. Side views tell a completely different story as it curves inward, creating an optical illusion that softens the interior of any room.
