On me: cap Zara | eyewear RETROSUPERFUTURE | coat & satchel Bunkaya Zakkaten | shoes Fendi
I made a visit to the quirky Harakuju-based store Bunkaya Zakkaten a couple of weeks ago and found this amazing lab coat behind the cashier. Wondering why it was hidden in such a nondescript location, the manager told me it was a limited edition coat to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Feeling like I hit jackpot, I bought the coat right away.
If memory serves right, I remember seeing a menswear look in the print version of The Sartorialist that left me with a lasting impression. It was of this tall, young man with model-like features sporting a minimal aesthetic and a large green coat. Thinking that it was something off Prada or Jil Sander, Scott Schuman was surprised to learn that it was actually a cheap buy from the flea market. Rather than the coat itself, Schuman muses that is was more his attitude and cool nonchalance that won him his style.
As I always like to think of it, clothes only make up 50% of your appearance. It's the way you carry yourself that earns you the other half. That is perhaps one of the most important style lessons I've ever learned and it has stuck with me ever since. Inspired by that one outfit, I chose this coat with the same spirit and made it mine with a pair of my favourite dress shoes from Fendi.
I haven't heard of Bunkaya Zakkaten before, but that jacket is so fun! I shall visit that store when I'm back in HK.
